Hands on Healing for the Whole Body

What is Osteopathy?

Osteopathy is a hands-on manual therapy approach that assesses how muscles, joints, connective tissues, posture, and movement patterns may relate to a person’s comfort and function. At Innova in Mississauga, osteopathy may support selected concerns such as back or neck discomfort, stiffness, muscle tension, posture-related strain, and movement limitations.

Osteopathic care should be based on your health history, comfort level, assessment findings, and goals. It should not be presented as a cure, a guaranteed pain solution, a permanent alignment correction, or a replacement for medical care, physiotherapy, chiropractic care, or other treatment when those are needed.

We tailor each treatment to your individual needs such as:

Our goal is to provide gentle osteopathic care in Mississauga that may support mobility, comfort, soft-tissue tension, and whole-body movement goals. Each session is adapted to your health history, comfort level, assessment findings, and personal goals.

Our Approach to Osteopathic Care

At Innova, osteopathy is based on assessment, patient comfort, gentle manual techniques, and practical movement support. Your osteopathic manual practitioner may consider posture, mobility, soft-tissue tension, joint movement, breathing patterns, and how different areas of the body may be contributing to your concern.

Is Osteopathy Right for You?

Osteopathy may be considered if you are looking for gentle hands-on care for stiffness, mobility restrictions, back or neck discomfort, stress-related physical tension, or whole-body movement support.

It may be appropriate for patients who prefer a manual approach and want care that considers how different areas of the body may be contributing to movement and comfort.

Osteopathy may not be the right first step for every concern. If you have severe pain, unexplained symptoms, major swelling, fever, numbness, weakness, chest pain, recent trauma, or sudden changes in bladder or bowel control, seek medical assessment before booking.

If your main goal is injury rehabilitation, strength rebuilding, or return-to-activity support, physiotherapy in Mississauga may be a more appropriate starting point. If your concern is strongly related to spine, joint, posture, or chiropractic assessment, chiropractic care in Mississauga may also be considered.

FAQs

Q: What is osteopathy?

Osteopathy is a hands-on manual therapy approach that considers how muscles, joints, connective tissues, posture, and movement patterns may relate to comfort and function. At Innova, osteopathy may support selected concerns such as stiffness, muscle tension, back or neck discomfort, and movement limitations.

An osteopathic manual practitioner provides hands-on assessment and manual techniques that may support mobility, comfort, and movement goals. In Ontario, manual osteopathy is not regulated by a provincial health regulatory college, so patients should review training, association membership, insurance eligibility, and clinic credentials before booking.

Osteopathy and chiropractic care are both hands-on approaches, but they are not the same. Osteopathy generally uses gentle manual techniques focused on mobility, soft tissues, posture, and whole-body movement. Chiropractic care may focus more on spine, joint, muscle, posture, and movement-related concerns. The best option depends on assessment and goals.

Osteopathy may support some patients with back or neck discomfort, stiffness, muscle tension, or movement restrictions. It should not be presented as a guaranteed pain solution or cure. If pain is severe, worsening, unexplained, or linked with numbness, weakness, fever, or trauma, medical assessment may be needed first.

Osteopathy may be considered during pregnancy for selected comfort or mobility concerns when appropriate. Patients with high-risk pregnancy concerns, unexplained pain, bleeding, dizziness, contractions, or medical complications should speak with a healthcare provider before booking any manual therapy.

Manual osteopathy is not currently regulated by a provincial health regulatory college in Ontario. Patients should ask about practitioner education, professional association membership, insurance eligibility, and scope of service. The Ontario Association of Osteopathic Manual Practitioners provides information about osteopathy regulation in Ontario.

Some extended health plans may include osteopathy, but coverage varies by insurer and policy. Your plan may require a specific practitioner designation, association membership, receipt details, annual limits, or referral documentation. Contact your insurance provider before booking to confirm your exact coverage.

At INNOVA Integrated Wellness Centre, our osteopathic treatments focus on restoring balance and function through gentle, manual therapy techniques. Osteopathy is a holistic form of care that treats the body as one interconnected system, targeting the root causes of pain—not just the symptoms.

What is Osteopathy?

Osteopathy is a form of manual therapy that uses a deep understanding of anatomy and physiology to treat dysfunction in the muscles, joints, fascia, and internal systems. Practitioners use non-invasive techniques to promote healing, reduce pain, and support the body’s natural ability to self-regulate.

It is especially effective for those seeking a gentle yet powerful alternative to conventional treatment.

FAQs

Q: What is an Osteopathy manual practitioner?

An Osteopath Manual Practitioner (DOMP) is a healthcare professional who uses hands-on, manual techniques to assess and treat the body’s structure and function. They focus on restoring the body’s natural ability to heal and maintain balance by addressing restrictions and imbalances in the musculoskeletal system, soft tissues, and other body structures.

Osteopathy and chiropractic both have the same foundations and share the similar philosophy. However, while they both strive to achieve the same outcome the treatments for each may look very different. Osteopathic manual therapists use more mobilization techniques, soft tissue stretching techniques and visceral manipulations in achieving the desired outcome. Chiropractors also use mobilizations however they commonly use more joint manipulation and commonly incorporate a variety of other tools such as acupuncture, instrument assisted therapies, electrotherapy and rehabilitative care in treating conditions.

Osteopathy is a safe form of therapy that can be used to effectively treat pregnancy related pains and strains. Osteopathic treatment can aid in allowing the body to adapt to the postural changes that occur during pregnancy and assist with the aches and pains that come along with increased pressure and tension on muscles and ligaments.

The practice of (non-medical) Manual Osteopathy is not currently recognized as a regulated health profession under the Ontario Regulated Health Professions Act, 1991, or any other legislation.  However, many Ontario Association of Osteopathic Manual Practitioners (OAO) members are regulated health care professionals, such as nurses, massage therapists, occupational therapists and physiotherapists, who have sought additional education and training in order to provide manual (non-medical) osteopathic assessment, care and treatment.

Group health insurance (extended health) benefits in Ontario often include the services provided by Osteopathic Manual Practitioners who are OAO members. Please contact your benefits administrator for information about your group plan, benefits and limitations with respect to coverage for the services of an Osteopathic Manual Practitioner who is an OAO member.
