Our Approach to Physiotherapy Care
At Innova, physiotherapy is based on assessment, patient education, movement support, and progressive rehabilitation. Your care plan can include hands-on techniques, guided exercises, movement retraining, home-care guidance, and coordination with other Innova services when appropriate.
Hands-On Manual Therapy
Manual therapy is used to support joint mobility, soft-tissue comfort, and movement tolerance based on your assessment findings and comfort level.
Therapeutic Exercise and Rehabilitation
Guided exercises help rebuild strength, flexibility, balance, and activity tolerance at a pace that matches your current capacity and goals.
Pain Management Techniques
Treatment can include education, movement strategies, pacing, hands-on care, and exercise planning to support comfort and improve tolerance to daily activity.
Postural and Movement Retraining
Your physiotherapist assesses posture, gait, lifting patterns, work demands, and daily movement habits that contribute to discomfort or reduced function.
Functional and Return to Activity Rehabilitation
Treatment plans are designed to help you return safely to work, sport, exercise, and everyday activities with better control and confidence.
When a concern also involves soft-tissue tension, joint-related discomfort, or stress-related physical symptoms, physiotherapy can be coordinated with registered massage therapy, chiropractic care, acupuncture, or other Innova services when appropriate.
Concerns Our Physiotherapist Assesses and Supports
Our physiotherapist assesses and supports a range of movement, pain, injury, and recovery-related concerns, including:

Questions About Physiotherapy in Mississauga
What happens during the first physiotherapy visit?
Your first visit includes a detailed health history review, movement and strength assessment, and a clear treatment plan based on your goals. You will leave with recommended next steps and, in many cases, a starter home exercise program.
What can physiotherapy help with?
Physiotherapy can support pain, injury recovery, reduced mobility, strength rebuilding, balance concerns, post-surgical rehabilitation, sports injuries, back or neck concerns, and return-to-activity goals.
Do I need a referral for physiotherapy in Ontario?
You usually do not need a physician referral to book physiotherapy in Ontario. However, some extended health insurance plans may require a referral for reimbursement. If insurance coverage is important, check your plan before booking and bring any required documentation.
How can I verify a physiotherapist in Ontario?
Physiotherapists in Ontario are regulated by the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario. Patients can verify whether a physiotherapist is registered by searching the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario Public Register.
Will physiotherapy hurt?
Physiotherapy should be adapted to your comfort, condition, and goals. Some exercises or movements may feel challenging, and mild soreness can occur as your body adapts. Sharp pain, worsening symptoms, or discomfort that feels unsafe should be discussed with your physiotherapist right away.
How long does physiotherapy take to work?
There is no fixed timeline. Progress depends on your condition, health history, activity level, goals, consistency, and how your body responds. Some people notice changes quickly, while more complex or long-standing concerns may require a longer plan.
What is the difference between physiotherapy and chiropractic care?
Physiotherapy often focuses on movement, strength, mobility, rehabilitation, exercise, and function. Chiropractic care may focus more on spine, joint, muscle, posture, and movement-related concerns. The best option depends on your symptoms, goals, and assessment findings.
Can physiotherapy be combined with massage therapy or chiropractic care?
Yes, when appropriate. Physiotherapy may be combined with registered massage therapy, chiropractic care, acupuncture, or other services when each service has a clear role. For example, physiotherapy may focus on strength and movement while massage therapy supports soft-tissue comfort.
