FAQs
Q: Do I need a referral to book an appointment at Innova?
Most patients can book directly with Innova Integrated Wellness Centre without a doctor’s referral. Some insurance plans may require a referral for reimbursement, so patients should check their plan details before booking.
Q: Is chiropractic care covered by health insurance?
Chiropractic care is covered by many third party payers. These include employee benefit plans, extended health care, workers compensation boards, automobile insurance, the federal public service, RCMP, Canadian Forces and Veterans Affairs Canada. In order to find out what your coverage for chiropractic care is, contact your benefits provider.
Q: What should I expect from my first visit?
You first visit will begin with an interview also known as taking a history of the area of complaint. During history taking, your chiropractor will gather details about your pain syndrome as well as take notes about other significant past or present health conditions as well as the health history of your blood relatives. Taking a detailed health history helps to establish your current health status should anything change and also helps to guide the chiropractor to focus their exam of the area of complaint. A thorough history is important to proper diagnosis. After the history taking, your chiropractor will go through a focused physical exam of the area of complaint. The exam includes testing range of motion/mobility of joints, neurological testing such as assessing reflexes, and specific manual test called orthopedic test in order to diagnose your pain condition and provide effective treatment.
Q: Are chiropractic adjustments safe?
Chiropractic adjustments are skilled manual techniques used to improve joint movement when clinically appropriate. Your chiropractor will review your health history, complete an assessment, and determine whether adjustments or other treatment options are suitable for you.
Q: Do I need to continue care for the rest of my life?
Chiropractic care can help at any stage of dysfunction weather it is acute or chronic. Because chiropractic care helps to restore proper muscle and joint function it also plays a preventative role in many conditions. Depending on the level of interest in your present and future health you may choose to see a chiropractor for acute pain management such as treating a sprained ankle or sore back or be more focused on maintenance or preventative care to help you stay active, pain free and injury free so that you can continue to participate in competitive sports, recreational activities, work past retirement age with improved health and mobility. Whatever your needs and goals are we are here for you.
