What is Cosmetic Acupuncture?

Also known as facial rejuvenation acupuncture, this technique uses ultra-fine, sterile needles placed in targeted points on the face and body to stimulate natural skin repair, reduce signs of aging, and support full-body wellness.
Unlike harsh treatments or injectables, cosmetic acupuncture works from the inside out, treating underlying imbalances that affect skin tone, texture, and vitality.

Our goal is to provide cosmetic acupuncture in Mississauga as a gentle, non-injectable facial wellness option. Care is adapted to your comfort level, goals, skin concerns, and response to treatment.

Our Facial Wellness Approach

At Innova, cosmetic acupuncture begins with a conversation about your goals, skin concerns, comfort level, and health history. The purpose is to understand whether cosmetic acupuncture is appropriate for you and what kind of results may be realistic.

Cosmetic Acupuncture and Traditional Acupuncture

Cosmetic acupuncture and general acupuncture are related, but they are not the same appointment focus.

Acupuncture in Mississauga may be used for broader wellness goals such as pain, stress, sleep, tension, or digestive discomfort support.

Cosmetic acupuncture focuses more specifically on facial wellness, skin appearance goals, relaxation, and non-injectable aesthetic support.

Some patients may benefit from general acupuncture, cosmetic acupuncture, or both, depending on their goals and assessment. Your practitioner can help explain which option is more suitable.

Questions About Cosmetic Acupuncture

Is cosmetic acupuncture painful?

Cosmetic acupuncture is usually described as gentle, although sensitivity varies by patient. The needles are very fine, and some people feel a small pinch, tingling, pressure, or warmth. Treatment should not feel sharp or intolerable. Tell your practitioner if you feel uncomfortable during the session.

Needle depth depends on the treatment area, technique, patient comfort, and practitioner assessment. Cosmetic acupuncture generally uses fine needles placed carefully at selected facial and body points. Your practitioner should explain what to expect before treatment begins.

Cosmetic acupuncture may support facial wellness, relaxation, and skin appearance goals for some patients, but results vary. It should not be described as a guaranteed wrinkle treatment, facelift, collagen treatment, acne cure, or Botox replacement. Your practitioner can explain realistic expectations after consultation.

Botox is an injectable treatment that temporarily reduces muscle activity in selected areas. Cosmetic acupuncture uses fine acupuncture needles and does not work the same way. It should not be presented as equal to or better than Botox. It is a gradual, non-injectable facial wellness option.

Cosmetic acupuncture may be considered by patients looking for non-injectable facial wellness support, relaxation, facial tension support, and skin appearance goals. It may fit into a broader wellness or skin-care routine, but it does not replace dermatology care, medical aesthetics, or medical treatment when those are needed.

The number of treatments depends on your goals, skin concerns, health history, response to care, and treatment plan. No exact number should be guaranteed. Your practitioner can discuss a realistic plan after assessing your goals and suitability for cosmetic acupuncture.

Some patients choose maintenance appointments after an initial series, but this depends on goals, budget, response to care, and practitioner recommendations. Maintenance should be optional and based on realistic expectations, not presented as required for guaranteed results.

Temporary redness, minor soreness, small bruising, light bleeding, or tenderness can occur. Some patients may feel relaxed or slightly lightheaded. Tell your practitioner if you take blood thinners, bruise easily, have active skin concerns, or recently had facial injections or procedures.

Cosmetic acupuncture may not be appropriate for patients with active skin infections, open wounds, certain bleeding disorders, uncontrolled medical concerns, or recent facial procedures. Pregnancy, blood thinners, and a history of fainting with needles should be discussed before treatment.

Cosmetic acupuncture and traditional acupuncture are related, but they have different appointment focuses. Traditional acupuncture may support broader wellness goals such as pain, stress, sleep, tension, or digestive discomfort. Cosmetic acupuncture focuses more specifically on facial wellness, skin appearance goals, relaxation, and non-injectable aesthetic support.

Acupuncturists in Ontario are regulated by the College of Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners and Acupuncturists of Ontario, also known as CTCMPAO. Patients can verify whether an acupuncturist is registered by searching the CTCMPAO public register.

FAQs

Q: Are Cosmetic Acupuncture treatments painful?

Cosmetic acupuncture uses thinner and shorter needles than body acupuncture. In addition, numbing gel is commonly used with facial rejuvenation acupuncture in sensitive areas to help minimize any discomfort.

Cosmetic acupuncture usually involves insertion just under the skin for many points such as wrinkles. Other points may be inserted further based on the area. Each acupuncture point used has a recommended insertion level to ensure safe application.

Facial rejuvenation acupuncture works by increasing the qi and blood flow in your body, and stimulating the muscles beneath your face to improve their tone as well as stimulating collagen production. The result is improved skin elasticity, reduced wrinkles and fine lines, improved facial symmetry and overall improved skin health giving you a healthy glow.

Botox is an injectable treatment that temporarily reduces muscle activity in selected areas. Cosmetic acupuncture uses fine acupuncture needles and does not work the same way. It should not be presented as equal to or better than Botox. It is a gradual, non-injectable facial wellness option.

Cosmetic acupuncture is good for people who want to look their best without the use of drastic procedures such as a face lift. Facial acupuncture offers a wide range of benefits, including a reduction in acne, blemishes, wrinkles and fine lines, as well as an improvement in overall skin texture. If you’re looking for a non-invasive but powerful anti-aging treatment with minimal side effects, facial acupuncture may be your answer.

For best results, 2 treatments a week for 5 weeks are recommended and one treatment weekly thereafter for the treatment time period.

Treatment courses vary from 6-12 appointments. Younger and healthy people see results more quickly because their skin heals faster.

After your initial treatment plan, maintenance facials are recommended every 4-6 weeks.

The needles are surgical steel and do not contain any medication.

Any time needles are used, there is the risk of bruising. All precautions are taken in order to prevent bruising in treatment.

People taking blood thinners, have severe anemia or are prone to bruising, suffer from seizures, are pregnant or have had other facial procedures such as fillers or Botox within 3 months are not good candidates for cosmetic acupuncture.
