FAQs

Q: Are Acupuncture treatments painful?

Most of the time you do not feel pain with Acupuncture. Most patients who do feel something describe a tiny pin prick or mosquito bite like feeling that lasts a few short seconds. While the needles are in during the treatment patients generally do not feel any sensations and report feeling relaxed.

Most Acupuncture points can be stimulated on the surface and do not need to go deeply. There are also specific indications for each point with precise needle depth and angle noted for each point. Needles are only placed at the depth required for the specific point.

Dry needling is a technique used by Western practitioners such as chiropractors, physiotherapist, massage therapists etc that is strictly based on anatomy and does don’t follow TCM principals or diagnosis. Dry needling uses thin metal needles inserted into muscle trigger points to release tension and pain. Practitioners who practice dry needling are not TCM Acupuncturists do not receive the same education and training as TCM trained Acupuncturists and cannot call themselves Acupuncturists. Only registered members fo the College of Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners and Acupuncturists of Ontario are allowed to use the protected titles of “Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioner” and “Acupuncturist” and their respected designations R.TCMP and R.Ac. in Ontario.
