FAQs

Q: Do I need a refferal for INNOVA services?

No, you do not need a referral to see a Chiropractor. Chiropractors, like your family doctor are primary health care providers who do not require a referral to be seen.

Chiropractic care is covered by many third party payers. These include employee benefit plans, extended health care, workers compensation boards, automobile insurance, the federal public service, RCMP, Canadian Forces and Veterans Affairs Canada. In order to find out what your coverage for chiropractic care is, contact your benefits provider.

You first visit will begin with an interview also known as taking a history of the area of complaint. During history taking, your chiropractor will gather details about your pain syndrome as well as take notes about other significant past or present health conditions as well as the health history of your blood relatives. Taking a detailed health history helps to establish your current health status should anything change and also helps to guide the chiropractor to focus their exam of the area of complaint. A thorough history is important to proper diagnosis. After the history taking, your chiropractor will go through a focused physical exam of the area of complaint. The exam includes testing range of motion/mobility of joints, neurological testing such as assessing reflexes, and specific manual test called orthopedic test in order to diagnose your pain condition and provide effective treatment.

An adjustment is a highly skilled and precise movement applied to a joint usually manually that helps to restore movement and function of a joint that is restricted in movement. Adjustments are a safe and effective therapy and may be used in combination with other therapies such as soft tissue therapy, electrotherapy, prescription exercises and stretches to help many pain syndromes. Chiropractors are highly skilled and trained in adjustments and identifying who are good candidates for adjustments. Sometimes adjustments make loud ‘cracking’ sounds. These sounds are simply air bubbles that become compressed under pressure of the movement and makes that popping sound when the air escapes similarly like when you crack your knuckles.
