What is Chiropody?
Chiropody is a regulated healthcare profession that focuses on the assessment and management of the foot and foot related conditions. Treatment is achieved through a medical, surgical or palliative approach.
A Chiropodist is a primary care professional who specializes in the assessment, management and prevention of dysfunctions, disorders and diseases of the foot. Chiropodists are an integral part of the multidisciplinary health care team, who are skilled in the management of acute and chronic conditions affecting the foot. These conditions include, but are not limited to routine diabetic foot care, sports and traumatic injuries, bio-mechanical assessments and orthotic therapy, pediatric foot conditions and ulcer care. A referral is not required to consult a chiropodist who may work independently; however, chiropodists often work closely with other medical professionals as part of the health care team.

FAQ’s About Our Chiropody Services
Chiropodists and podiatrists are the only recognized and regulated foot specialists in Ontario.
Practitioners in the U.S, or those who came to Ontario before 1993, are referred to as podiatrists whereas those who came after 1993 or received their education in Ontario are called chiropodists. Both chiropody and podiatry are regulated under the same college, however there are a few key difference in the two professions in Ontario. Firstly, podiatrists hold a 4 year baccalaureate Doctor of Podiatric Medicine (DMP) degree and chiropodists hold a Diploma in Chiropody. Podiatrists may bill under OHIP, whereas chiropodists cannot, however chiropody services are covered under most third party insurance providers and extended health care plans. Podiatrists can communicate a diagnosis and order or take x-rays whereas chiropodists cannot communicate a diagnosis nor take or order x-rays.
